Pierre Du Val (1619 - 1683)

Profile :
It is generally accepted that the great age of French cartography originated with the works of Nicolas Sanson but credit must go also to A. H. Jaillot and Pierre Duval for re-engraving Sansons maps, many still unprinted after his death, and republishing them in face of strong competition from the Dutch, who continued to dominate the market until the end of the 17th century.
P Duval was the son-in-law of Nicolas Sanson, and apart from republishing Sansons work, Duval also published a wide range of atlases, individual maps of the world, the continents and many spectacular wall maps
