Description:This large fine hand coloured original antique map of the Scottish region of Dumbarton, highlighting the beginning of the railway system and centering on Glasgow and the river Clyde - with an inset image of Dumbarton Castle and another of the Firth of Clyde - was published by W & A.K.Johnston in 1841.
Johnston was one of the master publishers of finely engraved and lithographed maps during the 19th century, this map is no exception. (Ref: Tooley; M&B)
