This finely engraved beautifully hand coloured original antique map by John Speed of the Welsh county of Montgomery was published by Thomas Bassett & Richard Chiswell in the 1676 edition of John Speeds famous atlas The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine, first published in 1611. The verso contains text in English describing the counties history history.

The map is embellished with five strapwork cartouches displaying a town plan of Montgomery, the title, scale, compass rose, arms of Phillip Herbert Earl of Montgomery. (Ref: Tooley; M&B)
