Description :

This finely engraved beautifully hand coloured original antique World Map sectioned into Globe Gores was engraved in 1700 - the date is engraved in the title cartouche and was published by Heinrich Scherer in 1702.
This map is in beautiful condition, strong paper, super colour and very deep heavy impression.

Interesting set of globe gores, one of eleven world maps which appeared in the 8 volume Novus Atlas published between 1702 and 1710. California is shown as an Island, Iedso is a part of Japan, and Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand are not yet fully formed. Strap-work title cartouche.

Heinrich Scherer (1628 - 1704) was a German Jesuit priest and Professor of Maths in Munich who published many distinguished books and atlases during his lifetime. (Ref: M&B; Tooley)
