This large beautifully hand coloured
original engraving of map of the bird
The Grey Headed Bulbul (Brachypus Eutilotus) - found in
Malacca on the Malaysian Peninsular -
was engraved by WH Lizars in 1836 - the date is engraved
at the foot of the image - and was published by William
Jardine & P J Selby in the 1837 edition of Illustration
of Ornithology, 4to.
Unlike the smaller illustrations by both Jardine and
Lizars these larger folio sized engravings are rare and
are of exceptional quality.
William Home Lizars (1788 - 1859) son of the founder of
the Lizars engraving and publishing firm Daniel Lizars
